<![CDATA[ TEAM Exeter - Blog]]>Fri, 15 May 2026 14:46:10 -0400Weebly<![CDATA[Tune & Fork Tuesday Launches in Town House Common]]>Thu, 14 Jul 2022 21:01:23 GMThttps://www.teamexeter.com/blog/tune-fork-tuesday-launches-in-town-house-commonTEAM (Town.Exeter.Arts.Music) has joined forces with Exeter Parks & Rec on a weekly event series to help promote increased community use of the “Town House Common” park located downtown right next to the municipal parking lot. TEAM and Ruffner Real Estate recently donated a permanent gazebo to the town, and Parks & Rec installed a concrete slab staging area underneath it which together can host small concerts, family picnics, or an afternoon hangout session for kids. The Phillips Exeter Academy Facilities Department also joined the town wide collaboration by constructing the gazebo.

The “Tune & Fork” series features live music, artist vendors, and local food trucks every Tuesday this summer from 5 - 8pm. Scott Ruffner, Director of TEAM, says the timing of this initiative is perfect, “With the town recently allocating several permitted mobile vending spaces right next to Town House Common, and also adding some brand new picnic tables in the park, it was a no brainer to contribute a gazebo that could serve as both a performance and gathering area that would make this underutilized space more of a destination for local folks of all ages. It’s a beautiful little park that for years has been in search of an identity. We’ve already seen a big increase in activity from people now enjoying a takeout lunch or a relaxing break from walking and shopping downtown.”

The series will run every Tuesday, weather permitting, until August 23rd.

Exeter Arts & Music Fest / Juneteenth Edition

For the June 19th Edition of the Exeter Arts & Music Fest we will be collaborating on the main stage with BLM Seacoast, The NH State Council of the Arts, and the Racial Unity Team to celebrate and raise awareness of the annual Juneteenth Holiday, which honors the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. There will also be an exhibit set up for the proposed “Black Heritage Pocket Park”, which will recognize the History of African-Americans in the town of Exeter.

Performers on the Main Stage will include Najee Brown and the cast of his play “Stokely & Martin, The Akwaaba African Drum Ensemble, Dance Performance from The Block, NH Hip-Hop Showcase, Bless Robinson, The Loop, Tiffany Colston, and more. Check back soon for final lineup.

‘’Art : Beat’’, a colorful collaboration by husband and wife team Bruce and Tracy Jones, is inspired in part by ever growing feelings of anxiety amidst the emerging oppression of our society. Bruce and Tracy reflected on past generations who struggled similarly, and gravitated towards Kerouac and his cohorts, attracted by their influences on the progressive moments of the 1960s and 70s.

Bruce’s portrayals of America’s Beat writers and some of their Bebop inspirations are a pertinent reminder for all of us to never take our First Amendment rights for granted, and to pay homage to those men and women who raged against their oppressors while fighting to express themselves. These large scale impressionistic portraits are painted in a limited palette with bold strokes, reminiscent of the Pop Art colors of the mid 20th century. The depictions are nuanced, and expose the subjects’ human imperfection and frailty, while striving to capture the struggles that these writers and musicians endured throughout their lives. The square format was definitively chosen as dramatic irony, for the Beat Generation defines “cool,” and these artists were simply not capable of being “square!” Many of these artists were afflicted by substance abuse and addiction, similar to the epidemic which continues to permeate our present society. Undoubtedly, these writers, artists, and musicians are defined by their genius, and not by their illnesses - similarly, we must not let this present scourge define our friends and neighbors, but rather, encourage creatives to find their voices as well.

Tracy’s large scale collage assemblages also evoke Pop Art characteristics, while correlating with Bruce’s portraits, as the repetitive circles contrast symbolically with the squares. Constructed primarily of donated recycled materials, each is like a miniature abstract painting itself, made of pure pigment, selected to either interact with its surroundings, or assembled as protests. These pieces are made to elicit responses and to force the viewers to look a little deeper at the world around them, to smile a little, and if necessary- to Howl.

The Joneses reside in Exeter, NH where they have enjoyed a life filled with family, friends, and art.

The 2nd Annual Exeter Arts & Music Fest returns to downtown Exeter on Saturday, May 19th from 10am-4pm, with live music, artist vendors, local food, kids activities and cultural exhibits!

The majority of the vendors will be just inside of Swasey Parkway, along with the Draugar Vinlands Viking group and the singer/songwriter tent. The Independence Stage will now be inside of Exeter Town Hall, along with a handful of art vendors, food, and kids activities. There will also be live music outside on the bandstand in the center of town.

The fest is free and open to the public, with a suggested $10 donation for those who are able.

Dana Nastee of AS3M Art will be at the Exeter Arts & Music Fest "live painting" on May 19th

New England and Boston Music Award winners David Drouin and Cold Engines will be performing at 2:30 on the grounds of the American Independence Museum in Downtown Exeter.

There will be over 30 Artist Vendors at the fest showcasing their original work !

YogaSmith of Exeter will kick off the fest with a free outdoor yoga session at 10am !
